Passion. That is what we have with Early German States stamps. From 1849 to 1920, 16 different states produced their own postage stamps during this fascinating era of tumult and change of the German unification process. These stamps tell of a vibrant people with both regional and nationalistic pride. They also provide a window to the history and culture of the region, as well as the struggles of unification.
With so many states producing these stamps, there is something for everyone. Each stamp has its own story to tell, and while forgeries abound in this area, in a way, they make the story of Early German States philately even more compelling.
